Marketing is all about identifying what customers want, anticipating what they need then setting out to meet their needs through promoting and selling products and services, whilst making a profit. The Marketing Sector is made up of a number of different components resulting in a variety of different roles and career paths within this sector. Although some organisations develop, manage and implement all their own marketing activities in-house, in many circumstances expertise in different areas of the marketing mix are bought in, including marketing agencies.
Agency Creative – In this role you would produce creative designs that get clients’ messages across with visual impact whilst meeting their brief. To be successful in a creative role you will be able to show a distinctive style ideally representing your thought process and personality through your work.
Agency Account Handling – Within this role you would be the vital middle man between creatives and client. It would be your responsibility to liaise with client and creative to ensure that marketing briefs are presented to a high standard and within the timeframe given.
In-house Marketing – This can be quite a broad role, involving elements of planning, promotion, market research, media relations, advertising and PR. You would be effectively working on all aspects of an organizations marketing including a specific brand or product line or just for the company overall.
Digital – A digital role can be both in-house and agency side. It would be your responsibility to develop an organisation’s multi-channel communication strategies through different platforms within digital technology and social media.
