Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (amended 1 Oct 2004)
These regulations apply to all employment and include recruitment, terms and conditions, promotions, transfers, dismissals and training. They give disabled people at work protection from discrimination.
The Regulations make it unlawful on the grounds of disability to:
- discriminate directly against anyone - treating someone less favourably on grounds of disability;
- harassment - unwanted conduct that violates a person's dignity and creates a hostile or degrading environment;
- victimisation - unfair treatment of an employee who has made a complaint about racial discrimination.
Employers are also required to make reasonable adjustmentsto working conditions or the workplace where that would help to accommodate a particular disabled person.
