Job Purpose: Responsible for all aspects of day to day running and sales development of branch

Job Description – Store Manager

Sales Development

  • Ensure growing profitability through effective merchandising and utilisation of selling space/floor area
  • Monitor sales performance on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. Keep accurate records and observe trends
  • Analysis of all sales records and sales management information to ensure that appropriate decisions and actions are taken to maximise profitability
  • Be commercially aware of the activities of other retail outdoor operations and display a good working knowledge of local trends and competitors
  • Liaise with and report to the Regional Manager on any opportunities and threats to your store and profitability performance
  • Stimulate and maintain an attractive and friendly shopping environment setting the highest standards of customer service excellence
Stock Control
  • Ensure that the correct level of stock depth is maintained on the sales floor at all times
  • Manage and implement all store promotional and sales activities, ensuring that all merchandise is well presented and accurately labelled at all times
  • Manage store procedures relating to the ‘mark down’ of goods and the return of faulty or damaged stock in accordance with company policy.
  • Ensure that all stock received into the store from the warehouse is documented correctly and handled in such a way to eliminate the possibility of damage
  • Control all systems relating to financial, security and administrative procedures, including regular stock counts and seasonal stock take in line with company audit procedures, with the overall remit of taking all reasonable actions to minimise stock loss

Store Personnel Development & Welfare

  • To manage the recruitment, induction, development and training of all team members and the maintenance of up to date and accurate personnel records.
  • To enrich the roles and responsibilities of all team members for both the current and future roles with the company
  • Lead the team by establishing and clearly communicating goals and targets, providing role clarity for each team member and allowing all members the opportunity to contribute ideas for improved efficiencies, sales and service levels
  • Ensure the correct deployment and utilisation of all team members and provide both formal and informal feedback on their performance through regular and timely appraisal, coaching and counselling
  • Handle all staff grievance and disciplinary procedures in accordance with company policy
  • Plan, organise and control appropriate levels of staff coverage to maximise branch profitability taking into account seasonal and business trends and budgets

Health & Safety

To take the initiative in promoting and ensuring a safe working environment for all employees to include:-

  • Providing and maintaining safe and healthy working conditions in accordance with statutory requirements (Health & Safety at Work Act)
  • Providing on-site training as part of job induction together with special and up dated training as appropriate
  • Ensuring that all safety and fire prevention equipment is in good working order and supervising its use
  • Setting an example in safe behaviour
  • Reporting and recording all accidents as required by company policy and procedures

NB: Both the store manager and staff have a responsibility to ensure that their actions do not in any way subject themselves, their colleagues or the general public to unnecessary risk.

Branch Security

  • To ensure that full and adequate provision is made to minimise the theft of stock and store takings
  • To comply with company procedures for reconciliation of store takings, security of cash and banking procedures
  • To be a branch key holder, the accountability for security of the store premises and company property extends outside normal trading hours.

General

  • Responsibility for adherence to and maintenance of ISO 9002 where appropriate
  • To undertake any duties at the reasonable request of the company and/or the Regional Manager
  • As representative of the company, to portray a business like and professional manner and attitude and at all times lead by example.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skill and Experience (Required to perform the job)

  • A proven track record of store management in Retail
  • Highly motivated
  • Excellent customer service/care skills
  • An ability to maximise sales through staff motivation
  • Effective use of merchandising and sales reports whilst maintaining a hands on approach
  • Good interpersonal skills (verbal and written)
  • Used to working as part of a team
  • Computer literate
  • Enthusiasm and drive
  • Visual Perception
  • Time management
  • Decision making
  • An active interest in the outdoors would be advantageous but not essential
