As so many companies rely on technology, an IT role is essential to ensure computer organisations run smoothly. An IT role would involve monitoring and maintaining the computer systems, and all the networks within an company. You may have to deal with both employees and customers who have technical issues such as forgotten passwords, viruses or email issues.
When in an IT role you are expected to advise businesses on technology and how it can help them perform better, then oversee new systems design and development. It’s a sociable job where you would be working with a team to make sure systems are completed on time and on budget, involving planning, justification and evaluation.
IT covers a variety of different tasks including installing and configuring computer hardware, software, systems, networks, printers and scanners. You would need the knowledge to respond to breakdowns in hardware and software, and furthermore you would need to know how to diagnose and solve any faults to ensure the system runs like clockwork.
